Ebay
Ebay is a very popular and very well known site for buying and selling used and new goods. It is essentially a giant online garage sale/ auction. I chose it for this very reason because it provides a myriad of products at a variety of prices. Sorted into categories, the site is easy to navigate and very useful. Ebay provides the enquirer with:
1.the starting price of an item
2.the number of bids, who placed the bids, and the reliability of the bidders
3.the reliability of the sellers
4. the condition, price, and location of the item
5. the time remaining to bid on the item
It also allows you to watch favorite items and create a username in order to track your purchases and customer responsibility.
Ebay obtains its useful information through user comments and non-expert peer reviews. For example, a buyer posts feedback comments on who they bought from, and ebay displays the positive feedback percentage, so future buyers can determine the reliabilty of a seller. Vice versa for sellers to the buyers.
The site is very well organized and clear. Each username links to a list of their reviews, for those who wish further perusal. However, a number and positive feed back percentage is represented by a number and colored star next to the username, so the enquirer can easily and quickly see the reliability of said buyer/seller. The site provides links to additional information which is useful, but it doesn't require further research in order to obtain information which prevents becoming overwhelmed.
Amazon.com, a competing website, is slightly superior because you can buy directly from a reputable company, so you know your guarenteed what you pay for.
